Since 1973, Mr. Jeffcoat has been in private practice, concentrating in the fields of real estate, estate planning and probate law, elder law, environmental law, corporate and business law, construction litigation, foreclosures and general civil litigation. Mr. Jeffcoat represents developers, builders, realtors, lenders, governmental agencies of all types (federal, state and local) and homeowners associations in condominium and planned unit developments, timesharing developments, commercial real estate ventures, contract matters and in litigation arising in these areas.
Mr. Jeffcoat has spoken to lawyers, developers, realtors, governmental agencies and other trade and civic groups in these areas and in the areas of current problems in real estate development, including leasing issues, hazardous wastes, wetlands regulation, beachfront management issues and other environmental matters. He has also qualified and testified in state and federal court as an expert witness in the areas of real estate restrictive covenants enforcement, commercial leases, real estate closings, marketable title to real estate, title examination, and the real estate attorney's standard of care and applicable ethical requirements. He also supports the firm's litigation attorneys in their work in construction defects law and community association law.
He has served as Chairman of the Real Estate Practices section of the South Carolina Bar, and three terms as Chairman of the Real Estate Committee of the Horry County Bar Association. He has been a member of the governing council of the Natural Resources Section of the South Carolina Bar, and is a member and past vice-president of the Grand Strand Estate Planning Council. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc. and the Horry County Probate Court Advisory Committee.
Mr. Jeffcoat donates a significant amount of his professional and personal time to non-profit causes, including the South Carolina Bar (CLE Speaker), YMCA of Coastal Carolina, The Nature Conservancy, Princeton University, Rotary Club of North Myrtle Beach, Winyah Rivers Foundation, Inc. (Waccamaw Riverkeeper), and his church.
In 1989, South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell appointed Mr. Jeffcoat to his Freshwater Wetlands Forum, a 37-member statewide task force, to make recommendations for statewide legislation dealing with freshwater wetlands regulation.
Mr. Jeffcoat has practiced law in South Carolina since 1973, and moved to Myrtle Beach in 1977. He began practicing law in North Carolina in 1993. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the North Carolina Bar, the Horry County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
